Identifying concrete areas of cooperation on sustainable consumption and production (SCP) between Africa and Latin America and the Caribbean is the main objective of the South-South Cooperation Conference of the 10-Year Framework of Programmes on SCP to be held in Brasilia, Brazil on the on the 6-7th April, 2017 at the Itamaraty Palace of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The conference is organized by UN Environment, acting as Secretariat of the 10-Year Framework of Programmes on Sustainable Consumption and Production, with the financial support of the Ministry of Environment of Brazil.

The objectives of the Conference will be in line with the priority objectives of the United Nations in supporting South-South Cooperation: support national and regional development efforts, strengthen institutional and technical capacities, improve the exchange of experience and know-how among developing countries respond to the specific development challenges of developing countries and increase the impact of international cooperation.

The event will gather up to 200 government officials, representatives of regional institutions, development agencies, civil society and the business sector from Africa and Latin America and the Caribbean. 

Main themes of the agenda:

  • Regional priorities and successful South-South Cooperation initiatives in Africa and Latin America and the Caribbean.
  • South-South Cooperation and development opportunities in high impacts sectors such as: sustainable food systems, sustainable public procurement, consumer information, innovation and sustainable business models, among others.
  • SCP contribution to international agendas: Agenda 2030, Paris Agreement, New Urban Agenda and the Convention on Biological Diversity.
