When: Thursday, Apr 26, 2018 - Friday, Apr 27, 2018, 2:30PM - 5:00PM

We are pleased to inform you that UN Environment, in collaboration with and through the generous contribution by the European Commission, is organizing the 6th Meeting of the International Forum on Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) Cooperation, including the meeting of the Global LCA Data Access Network (GLAD). The meeting, hosted by the European Commission DG Environment, will take place from 26th April 2018 (afternoon) to 27th April 2018 (all day) in Brussels, Belgium.

Launched in September 2012 in Brussels, the International Forum on LCA Cooperation aims to provide a space for discussion among governments and governmental programs in support of LCA in order to define areas for cooperation on LCA related activities. At its 3rd meeting (Washington DC, 2014), an important focus of the discussion was placed on establishing an international platform to promote LCA data accessibility and interoperability, as a basis for advancing LCA related policy-making and coherence. As such, the Global LCA Data Access (GLAD) network was created, and after 3.5 years of international consensus finding and development work, the GLAD platform has been completed in the beginning of 2018.

With the launch of the GLAD platform, the International Forum on LCA Cooperation will resume its dialogue around the use of LCA based policies and initiate a discourse on how GLAD and the enhanced LCA Data accessibility and interoperability that come with it can contribute to this end.

The 6th meeting of the International Forum on LCA Cooperation will specifically address the following topics (a detailed agenda to the meeting will be shared in due course):

(i) LCA in policies: best practices, requirements and possibilities;

(ii) LCA as a tool for public and institutional procurement: policy options, prerequisites and methods;

(iii) Opportunities for advancing LCA based procurement through GLAD;

(iv) GLAD beyond LCA data: linking to other data sources.

Limited places for participation in the meeting are available. In order to secure your place, please confirm your participation by 30th March 2018. With the confirmation of your participation, please inform whether you need to receive an official invitation letter for visa purposes.

Subject to the availability of funds, UN Environment will be able to cover travel expenses for a few selected participants, and in this sense we are pleased to invite individuals to express interest in receiving travel support. Participants will be selected on the basis of regional and gender balance, and the following criteria:

(i) Government / governmental institutes’ participants from developing countries and emerging economies;

(ii) Expertise on Life Cycle Assessment and/or policy development;
